WHAT IS A MICROLIGHT ?
A Microlight aircraft is another name for a powered hang glider, more commonly known as a trike. This aircraft is controlled by weight-shift, just as a hang glider is. The only real control difference between a hang glider and a Microlight is the way in which it becomes airborne.

We take our Microlight on all our holidays and fly over breathtaking scenery - and you could too. A qualified pilot can fly from aerodromes that are not in control zones, giving you the freedom to fly just about anywhere in Australia. Capable of carrying 2 people and 45 litres of fuel, a Trike can stay aloft for 4 hours or more while cruising at a speed of 50 knots, making journeys of 400 km or more possible. Powered by a Rotax 60 hp water cooled 2 stroke engine the trike can climb at 600 feet per minute (2 up)

All our Microlights are fully certified and approved by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority under Civil Aviation Order 95.32.
They are fully manufactured by Airborne Windsports, Australia's major microlight manufacturer.
Trikes are one of the safest aircraft flying. Powered Hang Gliders with the engine switched off are designed to be as manoeuvrable as a Hang Glider. This means that gliding into small paddocks if necessary is easily achievable. Their design also makes them easy to control, very stable and a difficult aircraft to stall, which is illustrated by an impeccable safety record.
Rather than running from a hilltop, the trike takes off from the ground with the aid of the rear mounted engine and the three-wheel trike base, referred to as the pod. Instead of lying down under the wing to fly it, you are comfortably seated one in front of the other. Unlike a conventional 3-axis aeroplane the trike has no foot peddles for aerodynamic control, rather, its foot pedals are used to control the front wheel when ground steering.
To fly a weight shift Microlight you simply fly the wing, just like a hang glider. Where you are seated is where your weight is located, and your seats (the pod base) hang underneath the wing and move like a pendulum. To turn the aircraft you have to shift your weight either left or right by pulling the wing sideways, in either direction. Which ever side you shift your weight towards is the direction that you will turn. It's sort of like riding a flying motorbike. It's very easy to learn and so simple to control that for the most part you feel like it's flying itself.
If you've never been up in a Microlight before, any of the four Trial Instructional Flights listed will give you a good feel for how the Microlight is controlled - and with training bars fitted to our aircraft it's a real hands on experience. We like to refer to these flights as being "scenic instructional flights"- scenic because of the beautiful surroundings that we fly in, and instructional because we give you fully supervised and expert instruction as part of your flight. It's completely up to you how much input you wish to have: you might just like to sit back observe and take it all in or you may wish to fly the trike all the way, apart from taking off and landing. There is only one danger that we feel we must warn you about now, however: once you've experienced Microlighting you may find it highly addictive!!
